What Cold Neutrons Can Tell Us About Origin of Universe
Dr. Yuri Kamyshkov, Professor, Department of Physics and Astronomy University of Tennessee, Knoxville Title: "What Cold Neutrons Can Tell Us About Origin of Universe" Abstract: One of unexplained puzzles of the universe is asymmetry between matter and antimatter. In all known processes at accelerators and colliders the matter and antimatter are produced symmetrically. This is believed also was the case when the universe emerged at t=0 in the Big Bang. However, there is almost no antimatter left in the universe. This is called matter-antimatter asymmetry of the uuniverse. Cold neutrons might help us to understand how matter was generated in the universe and what happen to antimatter. Research reactors and "cold neutron moderators" are essential tools for such research. We will discuss possible experiment where neutrons can be converted to antineutrons i.e. matter can be transformed to antimatter.
